Read Waterloo and Waterloo East carefully
Waterloo mainline and Waterloo East are different railway stations. National Rail lists Waterloo East separately, at Sandell Street, with Southeastern as its manager. If an itinerary names Waterloo East, follow the interchange signs and that service’s information; being on Waterloo’s main concourse is not the same as reaching its departure platform.
Prepare for a mainline departure
Have the service time, destination and ticket ready before checking the main departure boards. Waterloo covers a large station area, so include the route to the platform in your planning. If you need rail assistance, arrange it with the operator and make the agreed meeting location part of your departure instructions.
Choose an exit for the onward address
The station has several ways out, including routes towards Station Approach, Waterloo Road and the South Bank. Use Network Rail’s map to choose the right side before leaving the concourse. A person waiting on another street may be close on a map but still require an inconvenient walk back through the station.
Check Underground access separately
Waterloo Underground serves four lines, but accessible routes differ by line. Network Rail identifies step-free access for the Jubilee line; use current TfL information for your complete journey and lift status. A mainline platform, a Tube platform and Waterloo East should each be checked when an interchange involves mobility equipment or heavy bags.
Make a South Bank stop realistic
Network Rail identifies the South Bank as a nearby walking destination. If you have time before a departure, work out the return route and station entrance before setting off. Check the station’s current luggage facilities and the bag rules of any venue you intend to visit, particularly for a performance or booked activity.
Confirm the final meeting instructions
For a collection, state Waterloo mainline or Waterloo East, the operator and arriving service, then share the actual arrival update. Use the confirmed meeting instructions for your journey. The station’s published taxi arrangements describe that facility; they do not automatically establish where a separately booked car will meet your party.

What if my train is changed to another London station?
Update the station and service in your onward arrangements. Do not retain a Waterloo collection request when the rail operator has changed the actual arrival terminal.
